Athletic Department Philosophy Statement
The mission of the Athletic Department is to serve as an integral extension of the school district’s academic and curricular program. Interscholastic athletics are not separate from the educational experience; rather, they are a vital component of it. Through participation in athletics, students are provided meaningful opportunities to grow intellectually, physically, socially, and emotionally within a structured, supportive, and inclusive environment.
Our athletic programs are rooted in the belief that education-based athletics teach life lessons that extend far beyond competition. While striving for competitive excellence, we emphasize that character development, personal growth, and academic success remain the primary objectives of our programs.
Educational Objectives of the Athletic Department
Our programs are designed to:
- Support and reinforce the academic mission of the school district by promoting responsibility, discipline, and time management.
- Develop student-athletes who demonstrate integrity by making ethical choices, being accountable for their actions, and upholding the values of honesty and fairness.
- Cultivate leadership by encouraging initiative, resilience, teamwork, and the ability to positively influence others.
- Model and expect sportsmanship by showing respect for teammates, opponents, officials, and the game itself.
- Promote physical wellness, healthy habits, and lifelong fitness.
- Foster perseverance, goal-setting, and the ability to handle both success and adversity with grace.
- Encourage teamwork and collaboration as essential skills for success in school and in life.
We believe that athletics provide a powerful platform to teach commitment, sacrifice, respect, and pride in representing one’s school and community. Coaches serve as educators and mentors who model positive behavior and reinforce district values in every interaction with student-athletes.
Participation in our athletic programs is a privilege and an opportunity to grow. Our department is committed to providing inclusive, developmentally appropriate experiences that prioritize student well-being, academic achievement, and character formation. It is with this in mind that the School District of St. Croix Falls Activity Code has been established. The intent of this co-curricular policy is to provide you and your parents or guardian with a reference to your responsibilities and the school’s expectations for your participation in the St. Croix Falls co-curricular program. No code can anticipate every situation. Any conduct determined to be inappropriate will result in appropriate consequences.
By intentionally aligning with the athletic department’s core values of Integrity, Leadership, and Sportsmanship, our athletic programs prepare students not only for competition but also for responsible citizenship and lifelong success.
