What is the Hear It? See It? Report It! Initiative?
All members of the Wisconsin high school athletics community– students, coaches, parents, officials and spectators are encouraged to actively promote positive sportsmanship by speaking up when they witness inappropriate behavior. Everyone has a role in creating a respectful athletic environment.
Why It Matters
Education-based athletics is an extension of the classroom. Just as inappropriate language or behavior wouldn’t be accepted in the classroom, it shouldn’t be tolerated on the field, court or in the stands. Every student-athlete should be able to compete in a climate of respect, free from threat, fear, and harassment.
When to Speak Up
Speak up if you witness:
- Harassment based on race, gender, religion or personal characteristics
- Profane, vulgar, insulting, or offensive language or gestures
- Taunting, designed to embarrass, ridicule or demean others
- Behavior that creates a hostile or intimidating environment
- Actions that wouldn’t be acceptable in a classroom setting
How to Say Something

Be a Positive Voice for Sportsmanship

Remember: Sportsmanship isn’t just about avoiding negativity–it’s about building a positive, supportive environment where all student-athletes can thrive. When you see something positive, say something about that too!
